Class Information
Listed below are the rules and policies of the classroom and general information about science on Team 7B.
Late/Missing Reflection Policy
It is my policy not to mark down students who turn work in late. However, if you do not do your homework or if you turn in an incomplete assignment you will receive a zero for your grade. Here is the procedure for removing a zero from your grade:
I will not ask students for missing work. It is your responsibility to tell Mr. Ower that you are missing an assignment and you need to make it up. If you fail to show up for homework assistance, your grade will remain a zero. All late work is ineligible for corrections.
- Complete the homework form to request a time to go to homework assistance.
- Go to homework assistance at the confirmed time. Follow the homework assistance teacher's instructions for turning in the work.
- Your assignment will be graded and your score updated.

General Class Policies
Daily Required Materials
Make-up Work
Students who need to make up work due to an excused absence can do so by scheduling a time with Mr. Ower. He is available during lunch (after October) and after school most days from 3:00-4:00pm.
Corrections
Corrections are offered on graded reflections. Corrections are done at a student's discretion and will not be asked for by Mr. Ower. Students should take advantage of this opportunity to improve their understanding. Some assignments will not have correction opportunities and that will be explained to students prior to being given the assignment. Tests, quizzes, guiding questions, and other assessments cannot be corrected. However, some situations will warrant the "bending" of these rules. No corrections are accepted if a student does not submit the assignment by the deadline! You may not go to homework assistance to complete corrections.
Many of our graded assignments will be submitted through Schoology. Different assignments will have different correction requirements.
In the rare instance of a paper assignment, corrections will be written on a separate sheet of paper and stapling it to the original assignment.
- iPad
- Pens and pencils
- Science notebook and folder

- Multiple Choice Reflections: You will have 2 attempts to earn a perfect score. Both attempts must be submitted by the assignment deadline.
- Written Reflections and Assignments: You will have 2 attempts to earn a perfect score. Your first attempt must be submitted by the deadline. The assignment will be graded and returned. Any corrections must be submitted by the second deadline.
In the rare instance of a paper assignment, corrections will be written on a separate sheet of paper and stapling it to the original assignment.
What is Graded?
There are 4 categories of work that are graded:
* If no grades are in the "other" category, the weights of reflections becomes 65% and assessments become 35%.
The reason for weighting the grades is due to how the curriculum is structured. Our curriculum is divided into 4 units. Each unit only has one or two assessments. Therefore, these assessments cover a large amount of information and concepts. A majority of your grade will come from your reflections (which you may correct) and your guiding questions. These are graded assignments that you can use your resources to complete. There is little to no reason why you cannot earn high grades in these two categories. Earning higher grades in reflections and guiding question responses will give you a solid foundation for your quarter grade. If you do poorly on an assessment but have a strong reflection and guiding question foundation, the assessment will not be as impactful on your quarter grade.
- Reflections: homework that is correctable. Worth 60% of your grade.
- Assessments: quizzes, tests, and projects. Worth 30% of your grade.
- Other: exit slips, binder checks, etc. Worth 10% of your grade.*

Online Grades
When you receive your username and password, you can login to the Parent Portal: Wilmette's online gradebook. This feature may not be available at the beginning of the school year. Do not use the grade book in Schoology to check your overall grade. Only the parent portal has you most up-to-date grade.
